Roster App

Overview: This app addresses the needs of four user types. These include recruiters and recruiting coordinators which manage and track day 1 readiness of new hires, onboarding coordinators who are responsible for conducting the 'Welcome to Walmart' orientation and need visibility to view new hire attendees and lastly, the onboarding tech team which orders and configures the new hire's laptops needed for their new role.
PROBLEM STATEMENT

The Challenge

Previous to the Roster app, the old onboarding system that was used presented a significant problem due to intricate processes, resulting in cognitive overload and a lack of efficiency for recruiters. The convoluted interface and cumbersome procedures made it challenging for recruiters to effectively guide new hires through the onboarding process, hindering productivity and overall user experience. Consequently, there was a need to provide a revamped solution that simplified the onboarding system, minimizing cognitive load, and enhances efficiency for all users.
WHERE TO START

The Approach

In addressing the challenges posed by the old onboarding app, we employed a multifaceted approach that encompassed various research methods to gain comprehensive insights into user experiences. Conducting a heuristic evaluation allowed us to systematically assess the app's interface against established usability principles, identifying areas of improvement. Additionally, fly-on-the-wall observation enabled us to observe user interactions in real-time, providing valuable context on how the app was utilized in practice.

Complementing these methods, interviews with recruiters and new hires allowed us to delve deeper into their experiences, uncovering friction points and pain areas firsthand. By triangulating data from these diverse sources, we gained a holistic understanding of user needs and challenges, guiding us in refining the onboarding app to deliver a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.

GENERATING AN IDEA

The Concept

The concept design for the roster app focused on leveraging insights from the legacy app to optimize data representation and streamline daily tasks for recruiters and associates. By analyzing the data points within the legacy system, we discerned which information was essential for effective roster management and which elements were redundant or non-essential. This critical analysis allowed us to prioritize the integration of relevant data into the new roster app, ensuring that recruiters and associates had access to the necessary information for their daily tasks. By eliminating unnecessary clutter and focusing on essential data points, we aimed to create a more efficient and streamlined flow within the new roster app, empowering users to perform their tasks with greater ease and effectiveness.
